Stay in the Heart of Rome

DoubleTree by Hilton Rome Monti - Rome, Italy

We chose Italy as our first trip since March 2020. We figured this was the only time crowds are low so we wanted to seize the opportunity. To be honest, we were nervous. We didn’t know how safe traveling was going to be, whether we’d felt comfortable and whether we would love it as much as we used to.

We took a direct flight from Toronto to Rome. Taking a direct flight was important to us. We didn’t want to be stuck in an airport any longer than necessary since it was our first flight in a really long time. The only direct flight at that moment was red-eye, meaning we depart at night and arrive first thing in the morning. If you feel you can get a night of great sleep on a plane, red-eyes are for you. We were aware that we would be extremely tired upon landing in Rome, so chose a hotel that would be familiar and comfortable for our first night in Rome, such as the DoubleTree by Hilton Rome Monti.

The Location

After taking the train into Roma Termini, we only had to walk 5 mins with our luggage to arrive at the steps of the hotel. Across the street is a large square with the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore. It’s also only 5-8 mins away from the best restaurants on Via Urbana and Via Cavour. For attractions, the Colosseum & the Trevi Fountain were only 15 mins by walking. Overall, the location was perfect. The hotel was far enough away from the busy streets where it’s quiet at night but close enough to walk to the most important places.

The Room

The room was modern & stylish and sparkling clean. We felt super comfortable after a long overnight flight. It had unique artwork throughout with great lighting. It had a nice big wardrobe with slippers and robes to change into. There was a fully stocked minifridge as well as snacks. The bathroom was so sleek and stylish. They use Crabtree & Evelyn bathroom amenities. There is a very nice powerful rain shower and handheld shower. The best part was their nice oversized fluffy towels

The room opened up into a large balcony with a great view of the street as well as the Basilica. Sipping espressos on the balcony was a real treat.

The Amenities

The Doubletree offers a breakfast buffet but they have changed how it works. You can go up to the bar and tell an attendant what you would like and they will fill the plate up for you. This was due to the Covid-19 measures in place to help keep the environment safe. With fresh fruits and bread, great meats and cheeses, and healthier options like yogurt and granola, their breakfast was delicious.

We had the chance to check out their rooftop bar for aperitifs at Mùn Rooftop Cocktail Bar. As soon as we walked in, the vibe was amazing. It had an even better view of the Basilica across the street. At sunset, we watched the city come alive with its lights. In addition to the amazing drinks, they offered tasty snacks. Even though the crowds in Rome were low, this rooftop was busy! We recommend making reservations if you plan to head here. It’s a great bar to enjoy that is open to the public, no need to be a guest staying at the hotel!

Nothing beats jetlag better than a good sweaty session. We were able to use their gym twice during our stay. Due to new COVID-19 measures, we had to book a time slot for the gym. It’s kind of great that during that timeslot, we got the gym all to ourselves. It was in excellent condition and had all the latest Technogym equipment.

Overall, DoubleTree by Hilton Rome Monti was a great choice to stay. It helped us get a great first impression of Rome. Their staff was super friendly and accommodating with always a smile on their face. We felt super safe and very comfortable. Highly recommend!
