Conrad New York Downtown

In November 2019, we took advantage of a flight deal we found: Buffalo to New York City for only $60. It has been one of our favorite cities. We’ve been a handful of times, and every time we’ve been, it was indeed a completely different experience than the last. The city always has events going on and new restaurants to try. We couldn’t pass it up.

We were lucky enough to stay at the Conrad New York Downtown. It was an incredible property that had a great location, spacious rooms, and lots of amenities. Here’s our full review.

The Location

The property located on the south-western side of Manhattan. It’s very close to the One World Trade Center, which is the most stunning building of the whole city. Did you know it’s the tallest building in all of the U.S and the 7th tallest in the world? Of course, right next to it is the 9/11 memorial, which is a must-see. One of the most incredible museum experiences a person will have. Also located steps from the hotel entrance are Brookfield Place, a mall with high-end shops and restaurants. The hotel is also a minute walking distance away from Brookfield Place Ferry Terminal and Rockefeller Park. The hotel shares it’s building with restaurants like Shake Shack, El Vez Burrito Bar, and other small markets and wine shops.

What we particularly liked about the location is that due to it being the Financial district, the area felt super clean and safe. It felt a little more peaceful than the usual hustle and bustle of typical touristy areas such as Times Square. The subway stations were nearby to travel to uptown or the airport. The walking distance to areas like Chinatown, Brooklyn Bridge, and the beautiful Battery Park was completely manageable.

The Suite

All rooms at the Conrad Downtown are suites. It means they are incredibly spacious, which is rare to find in hotels in Manhattan. All rooms came equipped with a lounge/living room with a couch, table, TV, and a large desk, with the bedroom being in a separate room. What was unique was both the bedroom and living room had large sliding doors for privacy.

In between the two rooms was the bar area, the bathroom, and shower. The toilet and sink had ample counterspace and perfect lighting. The shower was one of my favorite parts of the room as it was incredibly large and spacious with marble tiling and a rainshower/handheld combo.

The bar area had a sink, minibar fridge, and a hidden cabinet for a variety of coffee cups and glasses. It also had a Nespresso machine and water bottles that are included with the room and not an extra charge.

The bedroom had lots of storage, two large closets, and deep drawers equipped with robes and slippers. A second TV was also in the bedroom. The bed was very soft and comfortable.

The bedroom had an incredible view of the Hudson River, Rockefeller Park, and Jersey City. We were able to watch the sunset as ferries went back and forth. I thought it was the best part of the room.

Sunset from our Suite – Conrad New York Downtown

The suite had an impressive lighting system. It had multiple touch panels near the bed, at the bar, and near the main entrance. You could close all the lights at the touch of the button labeled “master.” I found it to be handy and inventive.

The Amenities

The lobby at the Conrad is unique. It opens up to the height of the building where all the floors and hallways are visible. A stunning enormous art piece hangs down, and below is a modern lounge area that has unique couches and chairs.

The Conrad Downtown has an excellent 24-hour gym with machines that look out to Brookfield Place. The gym provides a weight rack, cardio machines, kettlebells, stability balls, and more. They also offer dry and cold towels, fresh fruit, and earphones.

The property also has a great business center. It’s spacious and equipped with a few PCs and even an iMac. They also have space to host weddings, events, and business conferences.

The hotel has a rooftop lounge called the Loopy Doopy Rooftop Bar. It was closed for winter when we had stayed there, so we didn’t get the chance to take a peak. Their specialty menu item is hard popsicles and offers an incredible view.

We spent a few hours at the Atrio Wine Bar & Restaurant, located in their lobby. We took advantage of their happy hour, which takes place every day from 4-6 pm. They had a great looking open kitchen where we were able to see the chefs in action.

The best parts of our stay were our room size, views from the bedroom, and its perfect location. It added up to be a great experience. We were very comfortable. It was a great place to unwind, relax, and recharge from the excitement yet exhaustion that can come from exploring New York City. We highly recommend Conrad New York Downtown and can’t wait to go back on our next visit!
